Genny Pittman Honored in Statewide Magazine
 
Genny Pittman, a senior at Homewood High School, is honored as a teen spotlight in Potential magazine. Potential magazine is a multi-media resource for parents of college-bound teenagers. In each issue, high achieving students in the 7th-12th grade are featured and nominated for the "Reach Your Potential" scholarship.

Teens are recommended by their school or community leaders for excelling in one or more of the following areas: academics, business, leadership, philanthropy, overcoming adversity, citizenship and community service, athletics, and the arts. Potential magazine's advisory board chooses teens each issue to feature and select which of the finalists will receive the $500 scholarship. Teens featured in Potential magazine are chosen from four regions in Alabama: Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, and Montgomery.

Pittman has received several honors as a swimmer such as the Olympic Trial Swimming Qualifier in 2012, a four-time State Champion in the 10-meter backstroke, an All American swimmer since 2010, as well as a Scholastic All American swimmer. She is also a member of Peer Helpers, SGA, Birmingham Belles, and Church Lector. Pittman is also a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and has received the Homewood Chamber of Commerce Award as the outstanding student of Homewood Middle School.Pittman has an incredible work ethic. She swims about nine times a week before and after school and does 5:00am morning laps and workouts.
