Berguson Named Head Football Coach at  Homewood High School
 
Homewood Patriots Assistant Coach Ben Berguson has been named the new Head Football Coach at Homewood High School. The decision was announced after an HCS Board meeting on March 18, 2014. Berguson takes over after serving as an Assistant Coach at Homewood High School and Interim Head Coach at Spain Park High School.

Track Teams Win Big at Homewood Invitational

Congratulations to the track and field teams for their performances at the Homewood Invitational, which had 50 schools competing. The boys won the meet and were led by event winners Dominique Linson, Alazae Hester-Taylor, and the 4x800m relay team. The girls placed 2nd behind Vestavia and were led by event winners Ann Mosely Whitsett and Kiara Williams. Both teams had multiple athletes finish in the top three.

Homewood Math Teams Make School History
 
The three Homewood High School Math Teams – Geometry, Algebra 2, and Comprehensive – placed 1st at the State Math Tournament and are the 2014 State Champions. Also, all three teams placed 1st at every tournament this year, completing the season sweep for the first time in school history. The HHS Math teams are sponsored by Tim Hurry and Mark Hellmers.

Homewood's Figueroa
Wins State Wrestling Title

Homewood High School sophomore Carlos Daniel Figueroa won the State 182 lb Wrestling Title at the USA Team Alabama State Championships in February. Two other Patriot wrestlers, Carlos Jesus Figueroa and Marshall Stone were both crowned State Runner-ups. Homewood Wrestling is coached by Eddie Crocker and Justin Cannady.

Malik Cook Named to Regional All Tournament Team
Homewood High School Junior Malik Cook was named to the All Tournament Team at Northeast Regional Basketball Tournament in Jacksonville, AL. Malik was also named as the Metro Tournament's Most Valuable Player earlier this year.

Jordan McCoy Receives Presidential Volunteer Service Award

Homewood High School Junior Jordan McCoy has received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award from The President's Council on Service and Civic Participation and President Barack Obama. Jordan received this award in recognition of his 1,000 volunteer service hours in the community over the past 12 months. The award is a way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service. Recognizing and honoring students sets a standard of service, encourages a sustained commitment to civic participation, and inspires others to make service a central part of their lives.
