Homewood Wrestler Kewaan Kennedy Wins at Super Section Tournament
 
Homewood wrestler Kewaan Kennedy won the 120 lb weight class title at the South Super Section Tournament in Montgomery on February 9, 2014. He led the Patriots to an overall 4th place finish in the two day event. Ethan Harris grabbed a 3rd place finish in the 113 lb weight class, Shedrick Kynard took 3rd place in the 152 lb class, Carlos Daniel Figueroa-Ordono took 3rd place in the 170 lb class, Chase Kelly took 3rd place the 195 lb class, and Jeremiah Dunham took 4th place in the 285 lb class. The head coach of the Patriots Wrestling team is Eddie Crocker.

Homewood High School junior, Alex Studdard, hit a layup as time expired to beat Ramsay for the Class 5A Area 9 Championship on Saturday, February 8 at Ramsay High School. Hannah Barber led the scoring with 16 points and 5 assists, with Studdard adding 13 points. Studdard and Barber have led the Lady Patriots to a 24-3 overall record this season. The Lady Patriots will now move on the the 5A sub-regional tournament. The head coach of Lady Patriots is JoVanka Ward..

Homewood's Jessica Tolbert Wins American Legion Award


Jessica Tolbert, a junior at Homewood High School, won 1st place at the American Legion District High School Oratorical Contest on February 8, 2014. This is her second year winning first place at the district level. She will compete at the Division level on March 1, 2014. Jessica is a dedicated student who is a member of the HHS Track & Field Team and a captain of the HHS Debate Team. She is also a member and chaplain of American Legion Auxiliary unit 267, YLDP, Council Senator, and Teen Court Attorney.

Varsity Boys Indoor Track Team REPEATS as 5A State Champions; Girl's Indoor Track Team State Runner-up
 
 
The Varsity Boys Indoor Track team win their second Indoor State Championship in a row at the Birmingham Crossplex on February 4. The Girls Varsity team finished as Runners-up for the second consecutive year as well.

Individual and Relay State Champions were: Kiara Williams – Long Jump, Triple Jump, and 60 meter; Andy Smith – 1600 meter, 3200m; Alazae Hester-Taylor – Triple Jump; Ann Mosely Whitsett – 800 meter; 4 x 200m Girls (State Record) – Elyssa Griffin, Kiara Williams, Christian Hill, and Hunter Midgette; 4 x 800m Boys (State Record) – Logan Sadler, Mike Rohdy, Hunter Poole, and Andy Smith.

All-State (top 3) Performers were: Alazae Hester-Taylor – High Jump, 60m Hurdles; Hap Williams – Long Jump; Dominique Linson – High Jump; Alex Ngei – 1600m, 3200m

National Signing Day at Homewood High School
Three Homewood Seniors signed athletic (football) scholarships on National Signing Day, February 5, 2014. Jordan Sims signed with the University of Mississippi, Sean Eaton signed with Delta State University, and Dwayne Orso signed with the University of Oklahoma.

Ron Pence Presented
 "Teacher of the Year" Award

Homewood High School Band Director Ron Pence was presented the Limbaugh Toyota / Pat Patrick's Friday Night Football "Teacher of the Year" award on January 23, 2014. The Homewood Patriot Band also performed during the event under the direction of Mr. Pence.
